Our
certified guides are natives of British Columbia
who have been traveling the waters of Georgia and
Johnston Strait for over 25 years. Our guide will
share with you the local history of the Coast Salish
First Nations people and stories of the first European
explorers, such as Captain George Vancouver, who
visited these waters in the 1700‘s. Our guides
are knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna
and are certified boat operators who hold Marine
Emergency Duties level 1& 2.
Departure
Location
All of the Desolation Sound West Coast Adventure
Boat Tours depart from the Westview Harbour Marina
in Powell River, British Columbia, 90 miles north
of Vancouver. Conveniently located at the Powell
River/Comox BC Ferry Terminal. The initial meeting
point will be at the Small Planet Whole Foods located
a short walk from our loading zone at the dock.
Convenient parking is available for our guests at
Small Planet Whole Foods as well as refreshments
and other accessories such as sun block and sunglasses.
Prior to departure we will conclude all payment
and tour formalities. There are convenient washroom
facilities located at the dock and onboard our touring
vessel. We will be happy to provide recommendations
for souvenir shopping and dining opportunities in
the Westview/ Powell River area.
Onboard Safety
Feel safe with us as our 30foot Wellcraft Scarab
provides the utmost in safety for our guests, while
providing them access to this rarely explored wilderness.
The Scarab has one of the highest safety ratings
of all high speed passenger boats. Our vessel was
originally used by the Coast Guard Rescue Auxiliary
Society off the southern west coast of Vancouver
Island.
Environmental Concerns
Desolation Sound Boat Tours is an environmentally
conscious company that uses the most up to date
equipment available. Our outboard motors are all
current year models with low exhaust emissions providing
reliability and safety. We meet or exceed all safety
and environmental regulations set forth by the provincial
and federal governments. We offer to our guests
the intimacy of a 12-passenger vessel allowing us
to venture into remote areas otherwise inaccessible.
Smaller tour groups such as ours less adversely
impacts our wilderness environment. Our tours allow
guests an up close and personal view of wildlife
from a respectable distance thus keeping wildlife
wild!
